I'd rather not use a cell phone card reader and send charges in via web portal. Is that possible

Can you allow a customer to pay online -- either with a link to your web page or a link to a payment portal? 

If so, how do I set that up?

There are two Square features that might work for you:

1. Square Invoices: Send a bill to a customer by email, or share a link with the customer so they pay the invoice online. 
2. Build with Square APIs: If you already have a website, you can use Square's API to accept payments. (Keep in mind, you'll need a basic understanding of code or to have the assistance of a web developer to use this feature.)
