Hello,
We have an ice cream shop and we have lots of flavors and options. This puts the quantity button way at the bottom of a long list. So if some says "I'll have that too" it's a 30 second process. Could we have a quantity button on the item list on checkout? Just a simple + and - that you can tap.
Thank you,
Steve
@WE_Golf Hello fellow ice cream shop! Good to met you!
We, too, are an ice cream shop. We have 80 possible flavors, 28 toppings, and various other options. And we deal with the same issue currently on POS. Unfortunately there is no way using the standard POS to get around this. I certainly wish there were.
Now, if you want to download Square for Restaurants and try that out, it has a very different interface where you can choose a modifier list and are then presented with the modifiers in it — no long list of all the modifiers to scroll through just to get to the bottom where quantity and comments reside. The quantity buttons are always readily available. It’s a very different interface and might be one you want to use, but I’d recommend installing the app on a test device so you can spend some time with it. I don’t currently use it, but that was a personal decision for this season — I did not want to have to retrain employees or me LOL. I’m going to see if I can make it work next year, mostly because of this very issue and because it will present us with much less scrolling.
I’m available to answer more questions if you have them, especially when it comes to menu setup on the Restaurants POS.
Chip, Just curious do you ring up customers before you make it or is it more for tracking COGS? We used to have an ice cream store but back then we had one of the old school registers where you just ring up the total. Feels so archaic but it was FAST LOL.
@PartyManiaMD Not so much for CoGS, but for statistics — how many Egg Nog vs. Licorice vs. whatever. Our customers go ape-s*&t over stuff like that! Otherwise we do ring them up before we make it since we mix every order to order. That’s necessary since we have over 60,000 possible flavor blends that all start with either vanilla or chocolate soft serve.
Our ordering is pretty streamlined these days and for the basic orders, it’s pretty quick, actually. But if customers decide to duplicate a previous item (“I want what they ordered”), then that is a little on the frustrating side, given where the quantity buttons are.
There are days (weekends especially) when we have 5-8 orders paid for and waiting to be made. So, we have to get all the information up front. But no one can complIan about our lack of variety! LOL
