Paid invoices and email notification to customers

Hi,

I am new to square, I recently used it at a convention at my booth to accept payment. How am I able to capture customers email addresses? I have gone to other booths and they also used square and shortly after i received an email from them thanking me for my purchase. how were they able to get my email address? is there a function i should have turned on?
