Multiple Varients one item?

I'm trying to do my clothing inventory.

so say I have a skirt called XYZ skirt

it comes in 3 colors 

and 6 sizes 

can I have one item with multiple variants?

so a customer cAn drop down color then size?

or will I have to have separate items for one variant?

currently, there is not a way to have nesting variants, so you would have to have blue xyz skirt then variants for sizes or vice versa.
