Hi @KeithC1. Unfortunately, the answer for this is that you can’t. Discounts are given on the total price of the item, including modifiers, and you can’t do this as easily as you’d like.
At this point, I can only think of one work-around, but it would be something you’d have to train your employees to do. Instead of an automatic happy-hour percentage discount, you’d have to create an open dollar discount, which your employees would add to the check and then key in whatever half of the base drink price is. If all of your base drinks were the same price, then it wouldn’t have to be an open dollar, but could be a specific dollar-off discount. But I doubt your menu is quite that simple, because whose is? Ha.
Otherwise, this is something that might be worthy of consideration as a feature request. I could see a toggle on discount definitions that say something like “Apply to Item Total?” “Exclude modifiers from discount” etc. You can submit an idea here and the product teams will evaluate it and let you know.
