Loyalty Sign-up at POS During Busy Times

What has been your experience when signing up customers for your loyalty program when you are extremely busy at checkout?  We run Pop-up Biergartens and I envision asking every customer to join our program upon checkout.  When the line is 20-30 deep, I am concerned the the process will slow us up at checkout.  Suggestions?  We will do our best to encourage signing up in advance of each event.  Thank you in advance.

Hello Curt, thanks for your question. I just started using Square Loyalty in my retail store, and I have been very happy at how easily it is to integrate with the checkout process. Are you using the Square Register? If so, When a customer is finished with their transaction, and they have the option to select a printed/email/text receipt, the final screen after is a quick message saying they've earned points for their transaction. there's a button in the corner of the customer facing screen to Sign-up and claim their points. Many people read this before I even tell them about the program. And if they don't, I have a couple sentence statement I posted near the checkout to help deliver a quick intro. Most EVERYONE has signed up for the loyalty program, so I've been VERY happy. It has only been a few weeks, so I don't have a lot of customers coming back yet to claim their points but I have been satisfied with how easy and quick it's been to sign up new customers.

If you want to encourage people to Pre-sign up, you can give a link out through email or your website. Ive gotten a lot of signups by just announcing in my email newsletter. There is a web link (and an App) that lets customers signup from your website or Facebook page, and then check their points. And you could design a QR code on a biz card and drop in their bags or hand out. And once they signup with their phone number, they receive message that prompts them for their email in exchange for a bonus point.

Let me know if you have any other questions and I hope this helped you!

Kind regards,

Charlie

🙌 Love to hear a good success story, @HC_Charlie!
Thanks for taking the time out of your day to share yours here

Reflecting back on my days in retail, signing folks up for these programs was always a huge focus, and the effort and time spent signing them up usually resulted in repeat visits. Fine-tuning our approach at checkout was a bit different at each location, and on each day. Most people love earning rewards, which makes signing folks up a breeze! I really love the suggestion here to announce the loyalty program via email as a buffer for the people you may miss if you're too busy to sign up every person in line, @Beerlander - cheers! 🍻
