I have a restaurant that I would like to maintain the tax rate for. But occasionally I also do an event where I would like to apply 0% tax. Is there a way to turn off taxes in one reader but not the other?
Also, it would be nice to have a separate profile to know which reader brought in which sales, i.e. the restaurant vs. the event, during a day.
Thanks!
Hi @Covert_Cafe,
Welcome to the Community!
Your tax rate setting is stored on Square’s servers, rather than on each individual device. If multiple devices are signed into the same Square account, the same tax rate will be applied to each device. If you make a change to the rate on one device, it will be reflected on all others that are signed in.
However, there is a solution that may work for you by creating a location and assigning it to each device using a device code. Once you do so, you'll be able to manage the tax settings for your separate devices.
Hope this helps guide to in the right direction. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!
I get around this by setting up a new category for the event item pricing and set those items with tax codes turned off.
Also re: reporting per device....my sales report does this automatically. I have an ipad in my shop, and my personal phone app for event transactions, and one of my employees has her phone registered as well (so long ago I don't remember how we did it). Each device has a different name in the device column of the sales report that I export to Excel spreadsheet and sort my day's sales by device name.
