Is there a way to add an item with no tax?

Is there a way to add an item, tax free...all the while taxing the other items in a single transaction?

For example, I want to allow my customers to round up or make a donation to the "charity of the month" at the end of their transaction.

when you create the item you can choose to max it non taxed.  so make a variably priced item called roundup with tax unchecked, then you can add that to the cart at the end for 55¢ and it won't add tax.
