I am not an expert but this is how we started...

1) get a google place page and optimize it with your photos, hours etc.

2) get listed on other websites like yelp, bing, etc.

3) try and get reciprocal links- so if you carry a certain line of something, have that website list you as a stockist- very important.

4) start a blog- fresh content is very important according to google.
