Hello! I want to have the option to apply a special code to my checkout for customers who are purchasing part of a fundraiser for a local organization. I want them to be able to enter the code at check out so that I know their order is part of the fundraiser. I am thinking this way because with COVID, this is one of the most non-contact way of doing things, aside from the traditional fundraiser sheet, where everyone goes around and collects cash. I own a gourmet kettle corn business and want customers to enter a code if they are part of a fundraiser in my checkout without having to create a whole new ordering system.
I've done the same thing successfully for a few fundraisers this past year! We donated 10% of sales brought in by the group over a two period and tracked it using a coupon code. Square doesn't currently offer a 0% or $0 discount (which would be great for this), so I made a coupon code for each organization with a $.01 discount.
You can then run a report for sales that used that discount within the time period.
The only trouble we had was with people writing their code in the order notes instead of the promo code (or forgetting entirely and calling us in a panic). This was a bit of a bummer and complicated tracking a little bit, but those that forgot were easy enough to add into the tally when we knew what their order was.
