I've been testing transactions on my Square Register. Now how do I get rid of them?

As I was typing the thread topic, I saw there have been a number of other posts on this issue. Some dating back to 2016! So when are we going to get a testing/training mode? And/or the ability to delete transactions? Had I known about these fundamental deficiencies, I would have figured out how to create a dummy account for testing (although that wouldn't help with future employee training in our shop). Now I've got a mess of test transactions in my main account that apparently cannot be undone.

I'll go further and say, had I known Square was so unresponsive to customer requirements, I probably would have gone with a different POS solution. It's not like we're talking about exotic features with limited interest: a testing/training mode is so basic I'd consider it to be foundational to any POS system. And SIX YEARS to "collect customer feedback" and make a decision on developing this functionality? Seriously? That's an eternity in the tech sector. It seems everything is stagnant in Square's development world. 😡

@Michael80 ;

To get rid of your test transactions... did you try to Test the refund abilities of Square.  That may help clear up some of those transactions.   Yes there are feature requests that Square is slow as you point out to act on.  You may still have transactions on reports but for refund give reason as TESTING or something.   I think that is what I did 2.5 yrs ago when I first got Square.

Yes, I've already refunded all my test transactions with "Testing" as the reason (with the exception of the very first live credit card test I did several days ago, which I refunded under "Accidental Charge" before I was a little savvier). But this is a kludge and is only a somewhat acceptable workaround when first getting started. Obviously, you will not want to do this in the middle of live business operations when you're training others on the use of the register. As others have mentioned, this affects both accounting reports and IRS records. Not good.

A testing/training mode is something that should have, at best, been included by Square before they ever launched their product. Or, at worst, been corrected immediately when it was first brought to their attention at least 6 years ago. I used to work in the tech industry as a web services/database backend programmer and this isn't rocket science nor is it particularly difficult to implement: just create a shadow database table for test transactions and provide a passcode-protected option to switch transactions from the business's live database table to the test database table and back again.

This is something they should have been able to roll out in a month (including development and testing, and in parallel with whatever other features they were working on at the time). To me, this illustrates a lack of concern for their customers and a corporate priority of profits over quality and customer satisfaction. They realize that most of us who've already invested in their hardware and software are essentially "trapped" customers who are unlikely/unable to leave despite Square ignoring our valid complaints. This is a common industry problem where tech companies rush to develop shiny new "bells & whistles" for marketing in order to attract more customers (AKA revenue) while failing to fix foundational bugs and deficiencies in their core product.

I completely agree with you, I just was not sure if you were able to do the refunds and get your books somewhat straightened out, or if those initial test charges you did were still on the Square reports.

A training MODE would be a great option.  It would benefit staff and give them even more confidence with client transactions and make all transactions smoother.  plus we would not have to refund transactions which does affect your reports for refunded transactions.  WE NEED a training mode. Most POS have a training mode.

This sounds like a great feature to have @ehflower

I will make sure to pass this feedback over to our product team for their visibility and consideration.
