I have two locations set up. I want to use one device but log into a selected location. How?

I have two locations set up sharing the same inventory items.  I want to use one device but log into the location I'm at and have the sales recorded at that location. In other words, one device but log into one location or the other and have sales recorded at the location I'm at.  I don't see any location selection from the POS screen.

Hello @srpablo !

If I'm reading this correctly, you are asking if you can have multiple locations on one tablet at the same time? If so, then unfortunately that's not something you can do. You can only work with one location at a time.

The only workaround I've seen is to have two devices, each logged into its own location.

If you meant you want to use the same device at multiple locations, then the same answer applies, but I have a trick for you: Device Codes. You can create a special 12 digit code for each location tied to the same device. Then its just the matter of logging out and logging back in with device codes instead of email/passwords. I do this with a terminal for farmer's markets and it works great.

Thank you Ryan.  No, not trying to have multiple locations on one device simultaneously.  One device on one location at a time but then the ability to move to the other location and log into that one with the same device - only logged into one location at a time. If I understand your work around, I can create two unique device codes each tied to a separate location but tied to the same device, correct?

@srpablo that is exactly correct. Once you have the codes, it's just the matter of remembering them. I ended up writing them down and putting them in a bank bag that carries the terminal.

@ryanwanner I was just about to ask this same question as I want to have one POS register in my food truck but use it for two locations (refer to my online ordering you replied to) 🙂

Does this workaround still work today?  That way I can actually track the infor by location by having only one POS register?

@colotti It’s actually a little easier now! You can move between locations without logging out of your device.

on your device, tap More, the look for the Switch Location line near the bottom of this screen. As long as you don’t have an open cash drawer you can bounce back and forth as you wish.

please note you won’t get any online order notifications for the location you’re not logged into. If that proves to be a problem, you could always pick up an old tablet or phone that you keep logged into one location.

So the cash drawer just needs t be “closed” out at end of day if one reading right

also since the online orders are for only one location at a time being the truck that should be fine and I assume that’s only if you have the POS notifications enabled anyhow?

To clarify only one device code is actually needed now to switch between not the 2 as previously?  I am testing but with an iPad before I purchase a register, but the iPad seems to still need the dual codes and logout/login.  Was not sure about the register and the easy switching option.  I assume it still needs a code for each location to be added somehow I just don't have the register yet.
