How to track monthly usage of a subscription item

I'd like to launch a loyalty program / annual subscription where for $x/year, my customer will get a souvenir container that they can bring in the store and fill up with product for free every month. What I'm trying to figure out now is how to keep track of which customers have filled up their container each month so they can get 1 'fill up' for free but need to pay for any subsequent fill ups in that month. I'm sure there are a couple creative ways to accomplish this on the Square platform but I'm new to it so I don't know the system well enough to figure out how to do it yet. Thanks!

Using the Square Loyalty program will allow you to set up the program or subscription that you would like to have for your customers. I would recommend taking a look at the attached Support Article. 

Another option would be to create a specific item in your Item Library to keep track of it as well.
