How to prevent device from picking up a weak wifi signal while in OFFLINE Mode?

Is there a way to prevent my device from picking up a weak wifi signal while in OFFLINE Mode?

Pretty frustrating cause the signal is too weak to swipe a payment but it won't go back to offline mode till the signal is completely gone. 

Do you think that switching my device to Airplane Mode would help?

Yes, putting your device in Airplane mode, would help out.  Another thing you could do is turn off your wi-fi signal.
