How to lower the processing fees or recommend for a cheaper POS

Hello community, is there a way to lower the transaction fees ? I'm paying almost $2k a month just in transact fees and that is ridiculous.

If not, can you recommend a different POS so I can trash SQUARE and use someone who do not charge arms and legs ?

Thank you

Hi @littlebakeryblo.  Square has a custom fee structure for large volume businesses, but I do not know if you would be eligible or not.  But at $2k a month in average fees, it seems to me you are doing $750k-ish in annual sales, so it is worth a shot.  Contact the Sales Department here.

Now to my experience with other card processors.  I’ve been with Square for 12 years now EXCEPT for two years when I decided to give my bank a try.  That required me to get a new POS.  I was promised much lower fees that Square, but learned they were only telling me part of the story.  Besides my interchange fees, swipe fees, etc, I was charged statement fees, PCI  Compliance fees, gateway fees, batch fees, etc, etc, etc.  I also had to pay for the basic POS which I got from Square at no charge for just processing with them.

In the end I ended up paying over 1% more per transaction when I factored in all of those fees.  This was especially true for customers who used Amex which cost quite a bit more.  Also, if I didn’t process a certain minimum amount during a given period, they reevaluated my account and changed my rates.  I finally had enough and when back to Square.

I tell you this only to give you my experience.  Switching was not a good financial decision for me.  These days, I just add 3% to my cost of goods calculations and increase the price of all of my products.  That way I don’t notice the card processing fees.

Best of luck,
