How to delete a variation of an item?

We erroneously entered variations for some items and want to delete the variation. I do not see an option for this. How is this done?

Deleting the "Variation name" under "Edit variation" and clicking "Save" worked for me to delete the variation if there is only one left.

I experimented with OPTIONS, which created VARIATIONS, but modifiers works best for me, so I want to undo the options and variations that created.  I deleted the options and the option set, but I still see two variations in checkout, both with the same name (regular).  I edited the item and deleted the text "regular", and now I still have two variations -- one says "regular" and the other says "Price 2".  I don't see any way to get rid of this.  Please help!
