How do you refund shipping cost for an order placed online?

I had a friend take home an item and didn't charge her for it. Later that day  I sent her a checkout link but it charged her the shipping cost.  How do I refund the shipping cost but not the item. (It's not offering it as an item to be refunded)  Which brings the question to how can refund a partial shipping cost. Ex.  overcharged for shipping

Sure thing - you can refund the full order, specific items, or a specific dollar amount of that order!

You can follow the directions outlined here, underneath the To refund an order without canceling section. Let us know if, for some reason, you are not seeing the option to refund a partial amount of the payment, @LaurenKay.

In previous versions, we were able to refund the shipping costs.  Currently, it seems like the only way to do this is via partial refund.  However, this doesn't indicate the category (shipping) that was refunded.  We need this categorization for accounting and tax purposes. 
Is there a way to select just the shipping charge and refund it like we used to be able to?

Kassi,

 

Thanks for this but it doesn't address the issue.  When I select the refund option, I can only refund the items and/or dollar amount.  I cannot select the shipping that was charged since it's not listed in the "items" or other section.  My only option is to just partially refund it but that doesn't categorize it appropriately.  We used to be able to do this.  The function is gone.

Update: you can do this from the Webpage > Transaction but still cannot in the POS.  We used to be able to do this until the update last February.  Please bring this function back so our cashiers can refund shipping and our admins don't have to login to do it.  Thanks.
