How do I get rid of the blank item squares on my checkout page?

I only have 8 items that I have set up on my main POS grid. However all of the blank squares are still showing and this makes my 8 squares really small. Can I get rid of all the left over blank squares if I am not using them?

the number of items in the grid is static.  you can't remove a row or column of tiles to make the remaining larger.  That would be a nice feature though.
