How do I clear part of the balance of a gift card?

I am able to clear the total balance of gift cards, but I don't see an option to clear part of the balance so that I and the customer know how much is left on their card.

there isn't a way to take some off money off of a card,  you either have to use it in a transaction or you can clear the whole balance.
