Handling Thrift Store Inventory and printing barcodes?

I want to keep the Square POS but adding unique items and printing barcodes seems to be slow or impossible when dealing with inventory like a thrift store would. Are there any solutions out there? Can I use seperate inventory management software where creating new items quickly is possible and then Square POS to scan barcodes for customers to pay?

Hello @SmallsRVA,

Welcome to our Seller Community! 😃

Square does not offer an inventory system to do exactly what you are requesting. You are welcome to look in our Square App Marketplace for an inventory software that can help.

Let us know if you found a solution or workaround for this. Have a good day!

Hello! I run a thrift store -- it's more curated so not a million items! We use Square Retail for Inventory and, for the most part, assign a SKU to each item via a library update (spreadsheet). We also use one SKU for multiple items that are all the same prices (e.g., men's ties).

My biggest issue is generating a new sku or tag for incoming items. Square doesn't do this well or quickly.

Some other POS systems have a few button presses to print out a tag for an item. Square doesn't seem to have a touchscreen option to print a new tag? I have to print a tag via their PDF option inside an inventory item page?

We input every new item into an Excel spreadsheet then convert it to a Square Catalog. So we end up uploading 50-400 items at a time (Modify Library). Then printed labels. It's a process for sure, but our auditors love us.

So, I can't print just 1 or 2 barcodes. I'm a new gift shop owner with many unique items (many are just one item)  and I'm trying to stay away from using Excel spreadsheets - I want an inventory system that will do that.
