Excluding Items from Free Shipping Totals

Is it possible to exclude items from free shipping thresholds? Right now we offer free standard shipping on orders of $75+. With the holidays coming up, we'd like to still offer that, but offer an upgrade charge as an item for priority mail. However, we don't want those upgrade charges to count towards the $75. Is this possible?
