Erratic connection issues - contactless chip reader

My contactless and chip reader worked fine for about a year.  

 

All of a sudden, it started acting erratically within the past couple of weeks.  When I open the Square app, the orange light at the top flashes; often the message comes up that the reader is disconnecting and reconnecting again.  Eventually, it connects, but it takes FOREVER.  

 

I went through the troubleshooting steps - which resolved my problem temporarily.  It worked for a while; then started the erratic connecting behavior again.  Any suggestions?  I need the faster reliability.  (It is over one year old, and therefore is out of warranty).  

 

Is it time to get a replacement?

Sorry to hear that, @dlweathervanes! You shouldn't be seeing any performance issues with the Reader even if it's older than a year, so that's pretty strange. 

 

In addition to the troubleshooting steps, we'll want to ensure the Reader itself has the latest firmware installed (should automatically happen in the background after connecting the reader and not taking payments for a couple minutes) in addition to making sure your app is up-to-date.
