Does the Square Stand work off the battery of the IPAD?

Not new to Square but am to Square Stand and Contactless Reader. I've used the phone reader for years. Decided it was time for an upgrade. Does the Stand require a charged battery or does it run off the power of the IPAD? I understand the Contactless Reader needs charging periodically but wasn't sure on the Stand. Thanks in advance.

The stand needs to be plugged in to power to work. It does not have a battery nor run off of the iPad.
