I'm new to square and bought a stand last night but my current I-pad isn't compatible so I was wondering if I buy the Square Register do I still have to buy an Ipad? I've looked at the Register and it doesn't look like an Ipad to me and I'm unable to find anything on the Square website that states it requires an Ipad.
Square Register is an all in one device that runs Android, you do not need to have an iPad to put in it.
It is more expensive than a Square stand ($99) + iPad ($300 though have been on sale for $249 lately) ($399 total), but the Square Register does have the customer display which is a plus. Square Register has a different fee structure which may cost you more in fees if your average sale is less than $50 or so.
It shows on the website that the fees for the Register are a flat 2.5%+ 10 cents per swipe. Is this incorrect?
@SkinEnvyStudio That is the correct fee for swiped magstripe cards, swiped or inserted chip cards, and contactless payments with the Square Register!
If you manually enter your customers card information or use card on file from the Reigster the per transaction fee is 3.5% + 15c.
I recommend taking a look at Pesso's review here: My New Register Review. He has pictures of the set up, and the impact the fee structure has on his business. I hope this is helpful!
