Do I need to turn on Cash Management on my Terminal if I only have one cash drawer connected?

I am running a double drive-thru window business. I already have our IPad setup on our Square Stand at the one drive-thru window and that is connected to our cash drawer. I just recently purchased a Square Terminal and I plan on using it on its own not connected to anything else so that orders can be taken at the second drive-thru window faster or so that our girl’s can go take customer’s orders waiting in line. Do I need to turn on “Cash Management” on the Terminal? I just need to know that the system will still factor the cash sales made on the terminal into our cash drawer. Our cash drawer has a key and can be opened/accessed without a sale being made,  so having the drawer “pop open” when a cash sales is made on the Terminal isn’t a concern of mine— just as long as the cash sales will show up on the total deposit for the day. Thanks!

Hello @CupsCoff !

It sounds like your setup is exactly what I had running when I had my drive up window in my store.

I definitely recommend turning on the cash management on the terminal and setting the opening balance to zero. Square will only track cash on the devices that have it enabled, and it is at a device level only--not storewide. If you didn't have cash management enabled on your terminal your cash totals will never match.

At the end of the day, run a drawer report for your stand and terminal then manually add the two totals together. This is how I ran every day and my shortages were minimal.

Bonus: if your cash drawer is connected to an ethernet printer, the terminal can be programmed to pop it open. It was always entertaining being able to open the drawer on an unsuspecting cashier. Evil? Maybe. Funny? Yup. 🙂
