Can you use the test app with phone payments?

Hi I am Cheryl 

I started my business back in 2017, making & handpainting bathbombs, candles, melts and more. I have been using square for at least 4 years now and love it. I am testing the new app that you can use with your phone, you don't need your reader. I hope this is the right place to be.

I do have one question. 

Can you use the app with phone payments or just card payments? I just had a customer, we tried to test it but it wouldn't take her phone payment. It took a little time to then get back to being able to pay with the reader.

You can manually add card numbers to process payments on the Square app without a reader by following these steps. You need the full card details to process payments this way, and keep in mind that for manually entered payments, a 2.2% processing fee applies. For a full breakdown of Square's fees, read through this guide. 

If you're wanting to accept Google Pay or Apple Pay, you'd need a Square Reader. These phone-based digital payment methods don't display the customer's card numbers, so they'd have to tap their phone on the reader in order to process a payment - much like how you usually tap a card on a payment terminal.
