Can't create new customer from credit card anymore

I use the Square app on iOS and have traditionally been able to create a new customer using their credit card.  This has always been supported, and is still listed in their help/instructions database: https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/5770

Recently, however, this feature seems to have disappeared. Now when I goto my app and do "Customer -> All Customers -> Create Customer" the feature to "Add from Card" (or whatever it was called) has disappeared. All it allows me to do is enter name/address/email/ etc.

This is a problem for me, as I don't always charge a client after our first session (I'm a counselor), but need to get their card on file in case they decide to skip their next appointment. Does anyone know what happened to this functionality?

Hey @tlovejr - I just looked into this for you and the ability to Add Card to a customer profile is still available if you scroll down.

Do you mind sending us a screenshot of what you're seeing on your end?

Hey, thanks for responding. What you posted is exactly what my view used to look like.  The "Card on File" / "Add Card" section/feature has disappeared recently, and my view jumps straight from address to "Other Information". This happens on multiple iOS devices (iPhones on iOS 12, w/ latest Square app).

Screencap attached.

Thx!

Ah, my mistake. My app hadn't updated itself and now I see the issue. It looks like you'll have to create the customer's profile first and once that's done, you can go back into their profile and the Add Card option will be available. I recognize this is an added step so I'm going to share this feedback with our Point of Sale team.

In the meantime, I hope that clarifies the process for you!

I see, thanks for clarifying. So yes they added a step. But the bigger problem is they didn't update their documentation accordingly. So essentially they added a hidden step, which is effectively the loss of a feature (until someone takes the effort of bringing it here).

Unfortunate, as I always thought it was pretty cool that all I had to do was swipe a card, and then Square "knew" who the person was - ie. It usually autopopulated the name just based on a card swipe. Very modern, and was always impressive to clients too. Now its back to a less intelligent version, requiring manual populating. At least it works, its just "less cool"...and requires an additional step on the customers side.

Hey @tlovejr, thanks for taking the time to share your experience with this. Puka is out today and I wanted to step in to let you know that we'll include your last post with the insights we surface to our Point of Sale team as well.

In addition, I opened an internal project to make sure the Support Center article is updated appropriately. Appreciate you flagging this and sorry again for the confusion. Let us know if anything else comes up in the meantime.
