Bundle or Package Items so customer buys everything they need to?

We are a hockey club that needs help streamlining equipment ordering. Once teams are selected, families are given 1 week to submit their equipment orders. Last year we used physical pen/paper and it was a nightmare, we had some parents ignore the mandatory section and others fill out areas that didn't apply to them. This year we'd like to move everything online and go digital.

 

Is there a way to either a: create a package where we can include all of the mandatory items so that the customer cannot complete the check-out process until all fields are filled; or b, create a single item that has multiple variations that would include all the mandatory items?

 

We anticipate having up to a dozen mandatory items required for purchase, all with their own separate details, sizing, and pricing (large jerseys cost more than small, etc..). Is there any way to make this work so that we can ensure families purchase all the mandatory items, as opposed to just having them select 1 item at a time in the online store and trust that they purchase everything they need to?

Item modifiers give you the option to add additional fees, and you can set the price for item options. i.e. jersey size

 

Will everyone be purchasing the same items, or will some positions have different or additional items to purchase? 

 

Can you provide a list of the items in a package so we can get a better idea of how to set this up?

Thanks for responding. Some age groups and teams will have different lists than others, but for the most part there will be a core group of mandatory items. See below, I hope it makes sense.

 

Equipment:

Jerseys (YS, YM, YL, YXL, AS, AM, AL, AXL, Youth Goalie, Adult Goalie)

Helmets (YS, YM, YL, YXL, AS, AM, AL, AXL)

Socks (YS, YM, YL, YXL, AS, AM, AL, AXL)

Gloves (7", 8", 9"10", 11", 12", 13", 14", 15", 16", 17")

Pant Shells (YS, YM, YL, YXL, AS, AM, AL, AXL)

Bag (Youth, Intermediate, Adult, Goalie)

 

Apparel:

Workout Shirt (YS, YM, YL, YXL, AS, AM, AL, AXL)

Workout Shorts (YS, YM, YL, YXL, AS, AM, AL, AXL)

Track Jacket (YS, YM, YL, YXL, AS, AM, AL, AXL)

Track Pants (YS, YM, YL, YXL, AS, AM, AL, AXL)

Jogger/Sweats (YS, YM, YL, YXL, AS, AM, AL, AXL)

Polo/Golf Shirt (YS, YM, YL, YXL, AS, AM, AL, AXL)

Hoodie (YS, YM, YL, YXL, AS, AM, AL, AXL) - may have multiple types so not sure if that affects anything at all

Hmm... I'm going to need to brainstorm this, and check in with some colleagues. I wonder if it would be helpful at all to also create a checklist with a contact form that parents would need to submit indicating they purchased all of the required items. I don't know how different this would be for the parents from last year, but it would definitely be easier to have the items setup individually as opposed to trying to create a single item with each modifier. 

 

I will need to try to build this out in my test account first, but it seems like it would be a lot of modifiers to keep track of. Although, maybe if the items were split, like you have listed... an item called Equipment with modifiers for each item in that group, then an item called Apparel following the same setup... 🤔  

 

I'll get back to you soon! Oh, but in the meantime, I noticed there's a beta called Item Bundling. I believe it is only for Square for Retail at this time, but it might be worth a shot to check the other available betas in case there's something similar for Square Online that would help you out.
