How To Remove Sales Tax from a Class in Appointments

I'm adding a class/event to my schedule and it is charging sales tax.  There is no way to uncheck the box.  All the previous "answers" to this problem don't apply to classes but more retail issues.  Can anyone guide me on this?

@Doran  I think it may be a bug for you. Here is my test Class:

Sorry it's not much help. But it's one additional data point.

I did that and the options are pre checked.  I can't check or uncheck the boxes and besides that no option shows up for NO SALES TAX.

Hello, was this ever resolved? We have also tried to remove taxes from classes as a category as well as direclty in the settings in our taxes to override tax settings for classes and non-physical goods but the two categories for our taxes are automatically checked and we cannot undo this. We are a nonprofit and do nto charge tax on our classes or events.

Not sure if you get this figured out or not, but here is how I got it working in my Square account (assuming I understand the issue correctly!).

Essentially create a new tax type:

  1. Go to Dashboard > Settings > Sales Taxes or use this link: https://app.squareup.com/dashboard/business/manual-taxes/new
  2. Select Create tax
  3. Name it something like ‘Tax Exempt’ and set the rate to 0%
  4. Under Tax application, choose Select items
  5. Tick only the services or classes you want this applied to
  6. Save your changes

This way, the tax box stays checked but the amount charged is zero. It also gives you control over which items or services are tax-exempt without changing your entire item library.

I wanted to share a current photo of what we see when we try to turn taxes off for our classes through the appointment calendar. We need to use this feature in order to streamline the sale of our classes and camps and we are a  nonprofit so no taxes are required for these sales or any event sales. We have followed every step that we've been provided through these threads and others. We have a tax exempt "tax" as an option and that box is checked automatically. HOWEVER, the sales and GRT taxes are also checked and there is no way for us to unselect this for the category, item, when creating a class etc. We need this fixed ASAP as it's a defining feature for our programming going forward but without the ability to remove taxes from classes we design in our calendar, we cannot easily allow folks to sign up directly through the calendar.
