Appointment Services with several options?

So I want my customers to select certain options for their appointment.  I'm a notary and I want them to be able to tell me how many pages, how many of those pages need signatures, how many people will be signing and how many of those pages require me to sign and stamp.  Everyone of those details changes how much I charge but right now I have a drop down that is as long as Santa's Christmas naughty list...with a lot of options.  If its not available is it something Square is looking at doing soon?

Hi @pgrnotary.  I understand your pain here.  My research doesn’t show a potential change that Square is planning, but of course I’m just a fellow seller and not completely privy to such goings-on.  LOL.  With that said, I might have a short-term solution for you that could work, as long as I understand your conundrum.  And, I’ll say in advance that if I’m off base here, feel free to say so.  You won’t hurt my feelings since I’m just throwing spaghetti at the wall.  Anyway……

Could you reconfigure your bookings to offer one or more base servicees “Notary Service A,” “Service B”, etc, with a base price for one notary signature/stamp plus one client signature.  Then offer add-on ITEMS for the options.  For example, using your post above, your items could be:

Additional Client Signature Pages @ $x, where the client could enter a quantity

Additional ClientsSigning @ $x, where the client could enter a quantity

Additional number of notary signatures/stamps required @ $x, with a quantity

This would have the effect of doing away with Santa’s Naughty List (lol) and replacing it with his Nice Items which should be so much easier to deal with.

It’s just a thought, but hopefully the seed for something you can actually use.

@TheRealChipA Only problem with this is clients end up missing most of the services they need to select to add on.

@suretify I see your point.  Like I said, I thought I’d throw out a possible solution.,  Sounds like I might have missed.  Also, I’m guessing that is a problem in your business, period.  Relying on clients to know what they need is always a roll of the dice!

That is very true, it is always a dice roll. lol

You didn't miss it though, I had the same idea and tried it just unfortunately it only worked for about 40% of my clients lol. Much of it maybe due to them thinking they will get the additional for free that or just lack common sense.

As we know common sense isn't so common anymore!

So I found kind of a half fix.  Not exactly what I wanted but it will do for now.  So what I wanted to do is have a service like Mobile Notary..under they select where they want to meet, then select how many people need to sign, then select how many pages need to be signed.   However I have to create Each location im willing to go, and then add the variation of that location as a drop down in 1 page one signer one seal, 1 page 2 signers 1 seal...etc.  And that's for EACH location.  So, its a half fix..but I guess it will work for now.  I do hope Square will create the services like regular items.  thank you for your response

@pgrnotary Can you send a link to your appointments booking web page? I’d like to take a look. I might have another idea to help you streamline it a little more, but would need to see what it looks like first.

@pgrnotary Ignore that last request of mine.  I checked my idea out on my own and learned something I did not know.  I had assumed that since the Create Service screen allows us to check modifiers to add to the service, that it would actually SHOW those modifiers to the clients and make them choose whatever we wanted them to choose.  However, I was mistaken in that assumption, as evidenced by this rather animated discussion where it has been requested quite a bit.  It seems that Square is aware this is needed, but it is still pending.  Maybe you should add your voice/vote to this feature request to keep it percolating to the top.

If Square would enable this, you could create different modifier lists — for location (required 1), one for total pages (1-50), 1 for signatures (1-10), etc.  It would make creating an appointment much simpler and would enforce rules of what is required, and what is optional.

Good luck!

Tagging @suretify also for obvious reasons.
