Why is Square asking for more and more personal information?

your question is vague as I don't know what you are referring to, but Square needs different levels of customer identification depending on what kind of account you have (Square Cash, or Square POS) and how many transactions or credit card volume you have.  There are federal regulations on maintaining User identification on accounts.  The patriot act, for example, requires credit card processors to collect and verify SSN of all applicants to avoid money laundering and other issues.
