The nightmare that is square assistant

Square seems to update and add features and flips them on by default and several in particular have caused us grief, one in particular is changes to Square assistant

my family runs a business and they are fairly old school, It was an uphill battle to get square to make payment processing easier and for appointments but what sold them was the ability to send automated texts for appointments, which early on worked as well as expected. All we wanted was a text to go out to say your appointment was on this day and this time, done and done.

The first issue came when square decided to turn on and notify our customers that they could modify thier appointments through text, we still use paper and pencil appointment book and do all additions and changes over the phone, so this caused a MASSIVE issue where customers were just changing around appointments, showing up out of the blue for the appointment they made themselves which we were unaware of and was just a huge headache, the owner was going to outright get rid of Square over this but I managed to find the option to turn it off (Which should NOT have been turned on by default!)

Now we got to the current issue, now the square assistant is telling people to "Chat with our automated assistant" I dont want them to talk to the bot, I just want it to tell people when thier appointment is! I only sign into my square dashboard occasionally (usually once a week) and now Im getting flooded with messages from clients trying to change/cancel appointments through the bot! Why??? why not  give us the option to add a custom response that says "Please call us if you wish to change or cancel your appointment"???? I DONT WANT TO TALK TO CUSTOMERS THROUGH SQUARE MESSAGING!

Im this close to agreeing with the owner to just toss square into the bin and find someone else, If these settings were optional, fine, but square needs to stop imposing itself on my business and adding settings then turning them on and causing all this mayhem

All these Square Support pages are easy enough to read and understand.  I, too am Old School and in the current times, it will only get you so far.  It is either Old School with frustrations or take time to concentrate on business and moving forward.

Hope This Helps!

Thats exactly what Im using, and the frustrations isnt the old school part, its square creating an update and using the update by default instead of leaving it off and informing me about it to let me decide if I wish to turn it on or off

these links are useless, I dont want online booking, Im well aware of these functions

Myself and individually the rest of my associates are having the same issue. Most of them weren’t even aware of Square assistant. It seems to randomly give clients the option to reply to the bot. When I go to my settings - it is in the off mode and should not be interacting w clients. This is bad!!
