I'm really upset, I just opened a square account and square is now holding my first transaction. They are now asking over 10 different verifications in order I can get my funds. I think it's very dishonest, scam, and unprofessional to not do this in the first place before I started having transactions come through. I hate how they waited until after I have a transaction go through to ask for all these verifications!!!
Hi @Disappointedwsq. You didn’t provide a lot of details to go on here, so understand that I’m just throwing things out here that might help you understand what is going on.
First, you didn’t say what kind of business you have, or if you took what might be considered an unusually large transaction. But some business types that are high risk will cause card networks like Mastercard or Visa to flag initial transactions to Square for them to review before they pay Square to pay you. If that happens, Square is required to do what they ask and investigate or they will lose their ability to process cards for all of us.
Secondly, you didn’t say what kinds of verifications they are asking for that “should” have been asked up front. Believe me when I say that business/personal verifications that were needed to open a Square account can’t possibly cover everything. That doesn’t make it a scam or dishonest or unprofessional. Something about your first transaction raised one or more red flags. Once that happens, there is nothing that can be done except cooperate with Square and answer their questions. If someone else raised the red flag to Square, they will share your answers and hopefully get this resolved sooner rather than later.
In all cases, Square as a card processor is following the law and various regulations that it must follow.
I wish you a speedy resolution.
