Square Banking

Hi, so I received an email today saying my transfer was completed and my bill pay was completed neither of which I initiated! Apparently we were hacked and someone transfered instantly from my bank account to my square account and then paid a company by the name of Lansers LLC. They got $2k of my money. I have been trying to contact square abd am getting no where! Has anyone ever had this issue with square or know of how I can get ahold of them on a weekend?

You can always contact our support team, regardless of banking holidays. Our team will conduct an investigation into any suspicious activity you report and will provide instructions for your next steps. They can also put a protective hold on your account, to prevent any further transfers, while completing their thorough investigation. You can read more about recognizing and reporting suspicious activity here.

If you haven't already, I also recommend enabling two-step verification to add an extra layer of security to your account.

Similar situation and unfortunately nothing I could do till Monday with my bank. Let me tag everyone here though for you now. @abbeyc@marielmt @kristen @nika hun this is as high as I can go go. I am so sorry.  Make sure Tuesday to get to your bank right at 9am and that was my best move and Square was awesome when Monday morning and that night I had all my money back and a new account. Good luck

We contacted our bank and cancelled the card but I have not been able to get a hold of Square. I'm going to try them tomorrow but not going to hold my breath considering it's a holiday! Thanks for sharing your experience with me!

Tomorrow is a banking holiday, folks.  Anything to do with banking and transfers won't be handled until at least Tuesday.  And Square support is always a skeleton crew on bank holidays.

In the meantime, I assume you have done the following:

 

  1. Changed your Square password for your owner account
  2. Enable 2-factor authorization
  3. Also, you might want to consider closing this bank account since it may have been compromised, then opening another one.  I know it is a total pain.  But the work now is more than worth it, trust me.  Don't take any chances.

Thank you! Yes, I already changed the password and I had 2-factor authorization which is why I'm so confused on how this happened.  I will definitely close this account and re-open another one!

@Angela-70 You shouldn’t need to close your square account. Only your local bank account that is tied to it. After you change your square password and add 2FA that should secure your square account.

Hi! Yes, I was able to talk to someone this morning.  A hold has been put on my account and they said I would be contacted by the security team tomorrow as they are not working today.

Perfect! So glad to hear. They did when it happened to me and I called all set that night all my deposits (2) days were deposited. They were extremely kind and made sure everything was checked off and you feel so much better afterwards. I know it is stressful and gut-wrenching but they were on it fast and kept in great touch with me.
