Split payment prints only 1 reciept

Noticed with split payments it prints multiple receipts with all the items for every part payment. When you have a large sale with lots of items this seems like a waste of paper. 

 

Can't it just process all split payments on the same receipt and show them as separate amounts on the receipt at the end?

Because Square's receipt acts as both a tax invoice and card terminal payment slip, I believe it's a requirement that each card holder/customer is able to receive a receipt for their transaction. You'll notice each receipt will have different card info on it specifically relating to the card that the payment was made with.

 

I definitely get wanting to cut down on paper usage though! Another way to do this might be to offer your customers electronic receipts rather than printed receipts. There should also be a Point of Sale option that allows you to only print a paper receipt upon request, so a customer can decline a printed receipt if they don't want one, or you can give them the option of printed, electronic or no receipt. I wasn't able to find this setting on my iPhone (no printer connected) so I believe it may be under the printer station settings when you have an active printer connected.
