Canadian selling B2C in US “account ineligible”

Knowing chip and tap readers are “landlocked”, I purchased my reader in Maryland for use in the USA.

My account info is my CDN address etc.

I do have an American bank, however first things first.

How can I use the American device in America when I get “account ineligible”?

The support line cannot seem to grasp the question.

Hi @JSprat38 - I see this is your first post in the Seller Community so I'd like to officially welcome you! 🎉👏

Cross-border card payments are unsupported. This means that card transactions attempted outside of the country where you activated your Square account (Canada, as you mentioned) can’t be processed with Square.

You can create multiple Square accounts, each with its own country selection, but a different email address and different identity verification information are required for each account. For example, if you already have a Canadian Square account, but would like to sell in the U.S., you’ll need the identity verification required to create a U.S. account – a valid U.S. Social Security Number and a U.S. mailing address.

I pulled this information for you from an article in our Support Center. I hope this is helpful but please do let me know if you have any additional questions.
