All my products cost $4. Why aren’t gross sales even dollar amounts?

Every single product I sell is either $4 per bag or $10 for 3 bags ($2 discount). So the amount collected on every sale is an even dollar amount and taxes are taken from the total price.

Why aren’t my gross sales showing even dollar amounts as well?

Here’s a sales report summary:

 Gross Sales         $1912.82

 Discount & Comps ($290.00)

 Net Sales.            $1622.82

 Tax.                           $129.98

 Refund by amount      ($4.00)

 Total.                     $1748.80

 Total Collected.   $1748.80

 Cash.                        $880.00

 Card                         $868.80

 Fees                           $32.28

 Net Total.             $1716.52

@Oreolook at your Cash and Card totals at the bottom. The cash total is an even number; the card is not, because Square takes a fee out of card transactions.

That would make sense if the card sales and the fees added up to an even dollar amount; however, they don’t.  That’s what’s confusing me. I expect to see gross sales - which Square defines as all sales before discounts are taken, fees are charged and taxes are taken out - as an even dollar amount. By the way, my discounts are even dollar amounts as well to make the math easy.

Hi @Oreo - I see this is your first post in the Seller Community so I'd like to officially welcome you! 🎉👏

You're correct - We define Gross Sales as "Overall product sales in a period, including modifiers. This amount is not adjusted for refunds or discounts, and doesn’t include taxes and tips collected on a sale. Gross sales exclude the sale of a physical gift cards from Square, but include the sale of products tendered with your gift cards."

However, if you'd like us to take a look over your reports, you'll need to reach out to our Support Team directly, as we are unable to access your Square account via the Seller Community. If you haven't already, please reach out directly by logging into your Square account and heading here.
