The title of this thread has been edited from the original: Closing cash
Hi All,
I'm completely new to using Square so this may be completely silly. I'm mainly using Square only at pop up markets so I have not invested in the Square terminal systems. Is there a way to set up the cash drawer management without a USB cash drawer connected? Currently using a cash box so there's no way to be connected to the app. I want to be able to track the starting and ending cash.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Hi @CuriousBaker! Yes, you can track a cash drawer on the iPad without having a cash drawer attached. You will need to enable it under Settings > Cash Management and then start your cash drawer under Reports on the Point of Sale app.

When I go into settings in my Square app, there is no option for cash management. There is an option for cash drawers, but it just says No USB Cash Drawers Found.
@boatharbourfarm I'm really sorry to hear the frustration regarding your cash management. What device are you using to view cash management and what Square hardware are you using to connect your cash drawer to your device? For example, if you're using an iPad you will need to use a Square Stand to connect a cash drawer. If you're using a Square Terminal or a Square Register you will need to use a USB port to connect your cash drawer to our hardware.
You told CuriousBaker that it wasn't necessary to have cash drawer hardware in order to use cash management - was this not correct? Same as them, I don't use a cash drawer device.
You can. It sounds like you went to Settings > Hardware > Cash Drawers and not Settings > Cash Management. The Cash Drawers setting will ask you to connect a cash drawer while the Cash Management section will allow you to set up your cash drawer settings like starting cash.
As I mentioned above, in my Settings, there is no option for Cash Management. You're right that the Cash Drawers option is under the heading of Hardware.
The headings in my settings include:
There is no option for Cash Management under any of these headings.
I also submitted a question to support, who confirmed "At the moment the cash drawer management is only available if you have a cash drawer connected into the system using a Square Stand, Square Register or Square Terminal."
Along this same line of questioning @AshleyK , can I have server iPads linked to a cash drawer without a physical connection? Can they Bluetooth? That way if a server needs to take a cash payment or split cash and card they can do so from the floor?
Just so I understand, are you looking for your servers to carry around a cash box to each table?
@JustinC @No sir. I’m hoping for them to be able to connect via Bluetooth to a stationary one. When they are closing a split ticket at a table and the first customer pays card so they start on the server ipad, but the second one wants to pay cash it messes up the drawer that they end up using because it’s not actually linked to it. And because they are half way thru the transaction they can’t stop and go back to use a register at a server station.
mine of the POS we were looking at allowed several servers to be connected to the same drawer.
Ahh, I see now! Yes the mPOP drawer by Star Micronics is compatible with iPads running 9.3.5+.
However, if using Cash Management, this set up will only work if all your servers are sharing the same iPad so the drawer session report from that specific device will match the drawer's physical cash amount at the end of day.
