This started 2 days ago.
Instead of a sentence typing as follows :
The quick brown dog jumped...
What is typing out is :
...depmuj god nworb kciuq ehT
What's even stranger is when I try to delete the incorrect text it doesn't allow me to just delete it. Instead I can delete 1 letter then the cursor returns to the top left - I have to then bring it back to the "beginning" down in the lower right to delete the next letter.
I attempted to talk to square support and was told there is no problem. Well there is obviously a problem. Has anyone else run into this? How did you fix it?

I reached out to our Operations team about this and they said that this is a known issue and a fix is being implemented in the newest update (app version 6.73) which is set to be released on 7/7.

That's interesting! Are you typing the description on the web dashboard via a browser or when using one of the Square apps?
Either case, the first thing I would check is that your browser, app, and operating systems are fully updated. I've seen some very odd issues happen when you're a version or two behind.
After that, try entering the description in another way: if you're using the browser, what happens if you use the app (and vice versa)? Also, if it's a browser, what happens if you use another browser?
Keep us updated on the results of these troubleshooting steps!
@StreamsideJamie Welcome to the community. Have you tried using a different browser? Sometimes the cache in the browser you’re using can get corrupt. If you don’t have another browser installed on your computer or mobile device, try using incognito or private window, that will be just a straight browser with no cache or extensions installed. Also if you have an add blocker installed I would try disabling that.
Is that even possible on the actual square POS machine? I paid $900 for this thing and I can’t input an item unless I’m on my computer. Incredibly embarrassing infront of customers.

Could you do a bit of troubleshooting and see if these steps help at all, please?
- Check for a strong internet connection
- Clear browser cache and cookies
- Try a different Browser, such as Chrome, Firefox, or Safari
- Ensure that your web browser is up-to-date
- Log out and log back in
- Restart your device

Hiya, I am having the exact same issue. @StreamsideJamie were you able to resolve? I finally used the Generate Description using AI mode and it fed in a descriptor, but I am still not able to enter my own text without it typing in completely backwards. Hoping Square will work fine at my pop-up event tomorrow. Thanks for any feedback. I did clear my cache and I'm using the Square app on my Android phone to input a new item.

I am having this same issue. I had an update yesterday.
I am having the exact same problem. Signed out and in, restarted the phone, still doing it. Definitely a technical Square problem.
Same with me. Typing a description should not be this difficult. Whomever decided to switch the flow of words needs to reverse their chicannery.
I’m having the same problem. It started just this week. I paid $900 for this POS and it’s being a PoS. So frustrating to have to tell customers hold on a minute while I open up my computer to make the item.
I have exactly the same problem. I'm using the Square POS app on three different devices, one Samsung tablet and two Pixel phones, all type backwards, only in the description field on the Item page, all other fields the keyboard operates normally.
I just downloaded it now 7/9/25 and it's typing in backwards

This is happening to us too. Using square register and in the description box its typing backwards so we can't add descriptions at the moment
Hi @GardenCentre, have you updated your device and app to the newest available updates?
I was able to find the version which is 6.72.1. There is no current update for the app.
