I am used to having to recharge the chip card reader before each time I go out to sell, but though it charged to the point of the green light last night it told me it was out of charge and I lost a sale today. I have had it about 3 years.
My reader's battery has also been waning and not staying charged. Through the holidays I've been keeping it stationary in my salon, and keeping it plugged in with the cord to the usb wallcharger, and taking a backup battery charger on location. Hope that helps!
Mine is also a first-gen reader, and the Bluetooth connectivity has been getting spotty, as well.
It may be time for you and I update! Lol!
Hi @billspoon and @HairByRyanC!
Sorry you're both having trouble keeping your Contactless + Chip reader charged.
Sometimes it's like a phone in the way that leaving it plugged in overnight can make the battery die faster the more it's done.
It may be best to get the dock for it so that way it's charged the entire time it's in use.
If you have the Chip Card Reader Dock it would still need to be plugged into the wall to charge. If you're not going to plug in the Dock you don't need the Dock as it just holds the reader. I use the Dock and have it plugged in 24/7 and it works great. Having the dock gives the reader some weight and makes it look a little more like a Credit card device. Still on my first 5 readers from the day they announced them.
At 3 years the Lithium-ion battery could be past its ability to hold a charge for 24 hours, as Li-ion batteries have a limited life, but leaving it plugged in all the time it won't matter if the battery is dead.
