Square/Weebly QR code fail

Hello Square Sellers,

Looking for some suggestions to solve for Weebly fail.

Square recently generated new QR code for our site. We used the original QR code over 2 years, printing on various marketing materials. 2023 print run cost over $10k and I'm stunned the QR code failed after all this time. Now the scanned code triggers a 404 page error.

Contacted the Weebly support gauntlet, only to be told there is nothing that can be done to resolve the issue. Only option offered is if I want to rebuild my site on a new domain, configured with OG QRC. This seems like punting, as a simple 301 could fix this.

Any other businesses experiencing QR code failure with Square/Weebly? Any advice on navigating the Weebly phone tree to get results?

thanks

Hi @Saucy.  Can you please post a photo of the QR code you’ve been using?  As well as the web page URL it is supposed to go to?  I use the Site Redirect feature of Square Online to fix this, which is a 301 redirect.  I had to use that because I actually changed the URL of a page and wanted to keep my old QR codes, too.

Also, when you post that, can you confirm that you are still using the Weebly editor to maintain your web site?

Thanks,

@Saucy I need to go now and won’t be back on until morning, probably.  So I’ll take a chance here.  As long as your website URL hasn’t changed, one of the two options below should help you set up the 301 redirect.  I can not answer why Square’s generated QR code has changed, unfortunately.  But I think this should help you fix whatever the issue is.

For Weebly edited sites, go to Settings -> SEO.  Scroll to the bottom and you will find a section to set up 301 redirects.

For Square Online edited sited, go to Online -> Website -> SEO.  Scroll to the bottom and you will find a section to set up 301 redirects.

Note that 301 redirects ONLY work on internal site pages — ie - you can not redirect a page from mybusiness.com to a page on myotherbusiness.com

I hope that solves your operational issue while you track down the “whys” of the QR code generation change.

Best,
