Constantly need to reset ethernet Printer

I own a seasonal ice cream shop that has a drive-thru.  At night, we have our Register person head outside with an iPad Mini, but inside we have constant issues with receipts printing on our Star Micronics printer.  The issue is NOT limited to when someone is outside, but is so much worse during our rush in the evening.

I want to get this fixed and I'm willing to invest in new hardware, but want to make sure if I purchase/improve something it's the actual fix.  Do I need to upgrade a WiFi extender, buy a new printer, or something else?

Any advice would be appreciated and I can answer additional questions if need be.

Hey @whiptydo!

Thanks for posting in the Seller Community

I understand how frustrating that might be. We want to look into this for you. Which printer do you currently have?

Thanks @whiptydo!

How is your printer connected to your POS?

Our printer is connected directly to our modem via an ethernet cable.  We use an iPad Mini for POS and it connects via WiFi

To confirm, you do not have a Square Stand? Your printer does not plug into a USB hub @whiptydo?

Correct, no Square Stand and no USB hub at any point in the operation.

I would try these steps and determine if any other them resolve the issue permanently @whiptydo

  • Turn your device’s Wi-Fi off and then on again.

  • Turn your device completely off and then back on.

  • Turn your receipt printer off and unplug all cables. Plug all cables back in and turn the receipt printer on.

  • Make sure the receipt printer is fully plugged in and a roll of paper is in the printer.

  • Make sure that your Ethernet cable is connected to the right piece of hardware. You may need to switch the direction of the cable.

  • Turn your Wi-Fi router off and then on again.

  • Ensure the Wi-Fi router is working and that your device is connected.

  • Ensure that the Ethernet cable connecting the receipt printer to the Wi-Fi router is properly connected to the Ethernet port on each device.

  • For iOS devices, Square needs access to your local network in order to connect to network printers. Toggle ON for Local Network in your device Settings > Square > Local Network to enable access, then relaunch the Square app.

If you continue to have these issues, I would check what the Star Micronics warranty policy is. You may just need a replacement printer, given that I know a lot of sellers have good experiences with the printer you're currently using.
