All items show free shipping when it should be charging shipping

I set up shipping to auto calculate with UPS or USPS. I created some boxes with max weights and max items and added weights to my items but when checking out it only shows free shipping. Is there a button somewhere I need to turn on so that all my items have a shipping charge? They all show shipping as delivery method.

Thanks in advance for any help

Thank you! It looks like you will need to upgrade your account in order to have shipping rates applied with your order.

It will look like this within your account settings:

Oh okay, thanks for your help. Any idea why it let me set all of this up without upgrading?

That's understandable! It is just a feature request that sellers are warned at the beginning that that feature is not allowed until after they upgrade.

I understand the need for better communication on that page - it would save you time and energy while setting up your webpage. I have shared your feedback with our Product team. 🙂

Yeah mine did the same thing WITHOUT any warning saying I had to upgrade !!!! I entered weight values and pricing. With my fall back rate.

Everything looked good for the first couple weeks then ALL OF A SUDDEN it went to the 9.99 fall back rate foe a small pendant.

I lost out on 80 customer views that might have bought something if the shipping didnt turn them away/ again. I DID NOT get a NEED TO UPGRADE warning. I mean honestly if the system is this buggy in the free account why would someone want to pay for it ??? :0

Hi @lapupusa,

Thanks for writing in, and sorry to hear trouble has brought you to the Seller Community.

It's worth taking a closer look at your shipping settings via your Square Online Dashboard. Head to Fulfillment > Shipping to take a look at your rates. Please let us know how you go!

Could you please check my site and let me know why my flat rate shipping is not showing up upon checkout? I have the free site and have all my items set for shipping and local delivery, but when I go and add an item to the cart, I click checkout, and it still has no shipping fee.

Hi there,

I thought I had that issue also, but what I discovered was when in checkout I had to go almost to the end of the process where you are ready to pay and the shipping and taxes get calculated. hope that helps 🙂

Thanks so much. That's sort of let down when you see "Order Total" and has no shipping. People are really going to think its free shipping until the reach the end. I know I would prefer to see shipping BEFORE I hit the Place Order button.

I also found where to change what boxes items will ship in, but still no change. Items still show free shipping when I got to checkout

I’m having the same problem. I started with professional thinking the shipping calculations would work and I agree it definitely was misleading. I was able to set up the UPS account, it said I was ready for real time shipping And let me set the region etc...all with no warning mechanism to say it wouldn’t work. For example it is much more clear abandoned cart emails won’t work without upgrading.
Since the product I ship has varying sizes and weight I checked on the Square website and looked at the plan comparisons.  It said the performance had shipping calculator. So I upgraded. It may not be the real time calculator, but I assumed there was some kind of broad calculation per region. All of my products still show up as free shipping. Please help.

It sounds like you may still need to set up manual shipping rules. To get started, go to the Store page and click Setup, then Shipping, and then follow the prompts in the link provided in this post (it's a bit long otherwise I would share it here in text).

Also, can you please reply with a link to your website so we can take a closer look?

Thanks for getting back to me. Heartwoodmetalworks.com

I have since set up some manual rules and hoping it works in regards to covering the shipping costs.
Doesn’t the regular “professional” version have the manual shipping calculator also? If so can I downgrade back to professional?

You only have a couple options to choose from, but you can edit the rules later if you feel you need to.

You can break up the region and create separate rules for (example) Southwest, Northwest, Eastcoast, etc etc. This could be useful if you find that the cost of shipping from state to state is too variable. To create multiple regions, you will edit the current rule and select the states you want to include for each separate region.

In order for shipping charges to show up when a customer checks out each item needs to be assigned a weight or it will default to free shipping or your default shipping charge. So if you go into all items in the line where it says either per item or per pound depending on how you have it set up at the end of that form you will see a weight that is probably blank assign a weight to that item.

Exactly, you got it! The issue was that it is a premium service that comes with an extra charge. It is unfortunate that I am able to completely set this up without warnings that it will cost extra to have it work =P

I was able to get this to work without to having  to upgrade to the premium. As long as each item is eligible for shipping has a weight to it, it will work even if you’re not selling that particular product by the pound it will still work. You just have to set the parameters which is pretty easy in the shipping calculation. And you can also get a UPS rep for free and they can kind of guide you to what it would cost to send let’s say 5 pounds of coffee It’s pretty easy once you start doing it. It just sucks that there’s no real directions you kind of just figure it out on your own.

Ah, do you happen to know if this is new? Everything that was mentioned was set up and it did not work. But it was the end of November that the square representative let us know we needed to upgrade. Perhaps it's one of the free things that they offer during quarantine for the time being
