I've never understood why (every payroll) there are duplicate line-items for Social Security and Medicare.  Is this normal?  Please help!

Yes, that's normal. Unfortunately.

Employee Social Security and Employee Medicare are the amounts withheld from your team's paychecks. As business owners, we then get the luxury of paying those same amounts again. That's what the Employer lines are for.

Gotta love the IRS... 😐
