Updating phone number for two-step verification

I am trying to access my Square for Restaurants account and have my UserID and Password. I am then directed to the two-step verification screen. The phone number is incorrect so I cannot verify my account. I spent about 45 minutes with "Customer Support" this morning and was told by one that Staff & Payroll could assist me to update my phone number but another said that only the businesss "Owner" could change team members phone numbers for two step verification. Do all large companies that use square require 1 person to change phone numbers? I thought that was what administrators were for. How do I change my number?

Firstly, it sounds like you may be listed as a team member on the Square account vs the Account Owner. The Square Account Owner is typically the person who created the Square account and provided their SSN at the time of sign up. For security purposes, there are some actions that can only be performed by the Account Owner, which is likely what our support team was getting at.

Do you know who the owner of your Square account is? They will need to reach out to our support team directly, in order to update the 2-Step Verification phone number for you. They'll just need to answer some security questions over the phone, and then our support team can remove the old number for you, so you can add your new one.
