How do I restrict staff from accessing settings?

Staff keeps changing things like custom tip percentages and a few other items. How do I restrict them from settings in the Square Register? I have stripped permissions down to the bare minimum but they can still see and changed pretty much everything in settings.

I figured it out. Somehow the requirement of a passcode got turned off. I suspect you were right in that someone was using my passcode. I have now changed and will have to be more careful about using it in front of staff. Most of my staff have been with me for years so this is disappointing.

Thanks for your help!

Hey there @HRBrewing.  In your Team Permissions, there is a section at the bottom called “Account & Settings.”  I have this turned off completely and if a team member tried to open settings it prompts for a manager passcode.  So, check that this is turned off, first.

If it is, then it is highly likely that your dishonest employee(s) know yours or a manager’s passcode.  I’d recommend changing them all (and maybe cleaning house.  I had to do that once someplace I was a manager and, trust me, it has never happened again.)

Something happened on one of the many updates and all staff have access to settings that will even allow them to change my passcode. There is definitely something wrong. Register no longer requires them to login, just clock in.

@HRBrewing So I just checked everything in my latest versions.  It all looks as I set it up, so whatever is happening seems to be localized to your account.  I’m assuming you checked the setting I mentioned, so I’ll give you a laundry list of things to check.

But first — if you are able to spare the time for a minute, sign into your web dashboard.  Then sign out, BUT when it prompts you whether you want to sign out of just this device, or all devices, select all devices.  That will sign out all devices connected to your account which, of course, means you will have to sign back into each POS, at least.

Next, do you just have one set of team permissions (besides Owner permissions) that are shared by all team members?  Have you checked each team member’s record to be sure that they are assigned to the correct permission set?

If you are sure that you have double and triple checked all of these things, then I guess I’ll have to bring in the big guns in the form of the Square Moderators.  But usually in cases like this, it is something as simple as one or more of these.

@HRBrewing I’m happy to hear that.  I was starting to think I was losing my mind, too!  Trust me, I understand the disappointment.  It always comes from places and people we least expect.  It’s why I say that having employees is a lot like having kids — without the fringe benefits!  Anyway, thanks for reporting back with your resolution.  That always helps when other sellers run across this thread in the future.
