So confused about shipping

Hello All, I appreciate any advice , thank you in advance. Iam from Canada and I am currently paying for the basic Square plan, so I know that in order to provide RTS rates I would need to upgrade my account. Unfortunately I am unable to afford that at this time. So with that being said I was able to connect my Fedex account successfuly, I plan to connect my canada post account as well but they have been having difficulties with their software and to check back. So I understood that once those accounts were connected my customer would receive the shipping rate options during checkout, sounds like that is not the case. Now im looking into charging a flat rate for each item (my items come in different sizes and weights) , so would I even need to connect to fedex and canada post then? If not is there away for me to predetermine the average costs for my items to make them a flat rate ? ugh sorry I sound like Iam all over the place. Hellp please , Hailey

Welcome to the Community! It's always great to see a new face.

Currently, there isn't a way to predetermine the average cost for your items with Square. This would be a feature request, and I'd suggest submitting it in our Ideate Room, explaining why it would be valuable for your business.

If you'd like more information about Shipping with Square Online check this article out.

In the meantime, I’ll tag a few Square Champions to see if they have any workarounds that might be helpful.  @Donnie-M @JTPets @BlackAngelDsgns @Candlestore

Square Champion

I have set up flat rates for my shipping.

I do disappearing shipping, it starts at $25 or $30 i cant recall, and drops to $0 over $150

I strongly encourage you to find a 3rd party courier company that can get you better rates. I myself have started using https://live.freightcom.com/ and they quote out a number of different providers based on locations and ALWAYS have been cheaper than Canada post or fedex.

Sadly they dont direct connect to square, and they dont ship to PO Box (only canada post can) but they are cheap and reliable. With their quotes I almost always end up using Canpar but it has varied depending on final destination

Hi Hailey,

Did you end up getting the answers you were seeking about this? I've been going down a shipping rabbit hole myself with rate comparisons, assigning rates on weight vs total cost, absorbing the cost vs cascading it to customers, duties and tariffs for US shipments, etc. etc., so I feel your pain! Would be great if there could be more support and guidance on this for us newer merchants.
