Possible Sales Tax Issue with Chowly Integration

The title of this thread has been edited by a Square Moderator from the original: Who uses Chowly in Ohio??

Anybody in Ohio use chowly for third party integration? Do me a favor check a recent transaction on square side  from a DoorDash/uber eats/grubhub transaction and let me know if it shows sales tax on the square transaction. If it does guess what you are paying for that out of your pocket, it’s not being generated by chowly. Their software to my knowledge at this point in time does not integrate properly with square. There is no way to set the orders coming in as tax exempt.

Hi @Scottb110, I appreciate you reaching out!

I went ahead and reached out to our Chowly integration team here at Square. I am waiting to hear back from them to see if they can take a look into this for you. I will respond back here once I hear back from that team.

Please let me know if you have any other questions in the meantime.

I’ve talked to the square team 4x times about the situation I’ve talked to Chowly’s 3x about the situation. They are the biggest problem as square generates a tax that was never collected on the item.

The problem runs deeper then just there integration though for Ohioans.

in Ohio we collect sales tax on dine in not on carry out. Except soda it’s always collected.

the way we have to setup this up in square is have sales tax collecting and then set an exception for no tax on all categories except soda for carry out and take out. This works on all square products, online ordering, cash register,

however when any third parties apps that I spoke with get fed in square they can read this exception, so for the two we used Orda and Kios, the system applies tax no matter what. This is the wrong way to tax but it does at least collect the tax.

with Chowly’s it sends a total of the gross sale of the check and the items, and square reads them as items at that price and then makes an additional sales tax generated on of it. It will show on the sales tax report, however it’s never actually collected anywhere it’s not even in the original amount of the check Chowly’s sends

I talked to Coboh and they say there software will not do it that we go live with them on Wednesday that will be the moment of truth

the Kios said it’s what square does,

this is a very serious problem with integrations that needs addressed

I understand and am sorry to hear about your experience, @Scottb110. I can imagine that this is all rather frustrating.

At this time, I unfortunately do not have much additional information as I am still waiting to hear back from our Chowly team, but will let them know the details on your situation.

I really appreciate you reaching out and I will work to get this resolved for you.
