Redeeming Egift cards using square restaurants POS

Hi, 
Trying to redeem an Egiftcard through our Square for Restaurants POS, 
All of the settings and options described in the help articles don't seem to apply.
The only option we have is to manually enter card number, this recognises that we are inputting a gift card but then still asks for expiry date / security code so we can't proceed.
I have also looked into adding the gift card to a customer account and charging it that way, but I can't find how to find a customer to charge it to at the point of checkout.


Any ideas?

Hey @Basecamp, I had a look into this on my end and I think the following steps will help resolve this issues. When you have a chance, please:

  1. Login to your Square Point of Sale app on your device — not the Restaurants app, but the free Square app
  2. Open the menu bar and go to Settings > Checkout > Payments
  3. Check that Gift Card is enabled as a payment method. If it isn't, you can drag and drop it to make sure it is enabled
  4. Go into your Square for Restaurants app and see if the payment method comes up in checkout

Hey @Basecamp - this should be the screen you see in the restaurant app, is yours the same?

I don’t think I’ve ever been asked for expiry date or ccv for a gift card in the app, but I know that you can actually put a gift card through online in the credit card filed & just type anything in for the security codes so if you’re still getting the prompt it could be worth trying that.

Not quite, we can't get to this gift card screen, only the manual card entry screen, when you input the number the icon changes from card to gift card and it seems like its going to work, but we can't proceed without the expiry date, typing nothing or random numbers in there doesn't work.

I'm glad that works - but I'm stumped as to why you'd not have the gift card option! I've had a look on my iPad & it's not in the checkout setting (like the main app), nor can I find in in the device settings in the dash! 

Hopefully someone better placed than me be able to enlighten us both!
