I recently upgraded from the Square Stand to the Square Register and noticed that when a customer makes a purchase using a gift card, the remaining balance doesn’t appear on the screen. Even in the transactions tab, it’s not displayed—we have to print a receipt just to see it. Does anyone have any insight on this?

Unfortunately, the Square Register does not automatically display the remaining gift card balance after a transaction on the main screen. This is a known limitation that differs from the Square Stand functionality.

Why the balance not showing anymore on the printed receipts? It used to…..
I've commented on this issue elsewhere, but in my experience the customers usually ask for their gift card balance about 2 seconds AFTER they hit the "No Receipt" button. I really wish Square would fix this behavior on the Register because I can't fix my customers!
I hear you, @anniemcg . Hopefully the engineering team has a plan to resolve this in the future.
I really hope they fix this issue soon. It's a major limitation, especially when we have lineups and have to take extra steps just to check a customer’s remaining gift card balance. Nine times out of ten, they ask for it.
